Browsing through some portable air conditioner and air cooler, and I finally purchased an Morgan MAC-COOL1 for RM250.
It is an evaporative cooler (wiki), that the air is being force through a running water, forcing the water to evaporated, and thus reduce the temperature of the running water and cools the air. (The one I purchased is not exactly same with the one shown in the image below, but the concept is similar).
The outlook of the Morgan air cooler, you can compare the size of the air cooler with the normal (classic) table fan.
The rear side of the air cooler, with the filter removed, it is a piece of cloth/paper material cooling plate, that allows water to flow from the top to bottom, and the air to flow from rear to the front. The water is evaporated here.
There is a water pump (seems like a normal fish tank filter pump) in the tank that will pump the water from the tank to the top of the unit and let it flow through the cooling plate.
So, I have been using it for around 1 day, and i think that it is "a little bit" better than normal table fan, but it is nothing compare to a real air conditioner. The air from this unit is quite powerful, and according to the sales person, this type of air cooler needs powerful air flow for more cooling effects.
After running the unit for around 30 minutes, you can feels that the water in the water tank become colder than normal water (I am not sure about the temperature), and the air is also a bit colder compare to normal fan, but it do not really cools the whole room. I am not sure why, maybe it is because the super hot weather recently.
Anyone also using air cooler? Any tips to improve the temperature?

Hi, sorry for late reply. Ya, been using it for sometimes already. It do produce colder air, that when you put your hand on the air outlet, you will feel that the air is much colder than the room temperature. The weird thing is this "colder" air is not much cooling the hand or body.
ReplyDeleteMy theory is that when the air cooler is running, the air blown out from the air cooler is much more humid compare to normal air because it carries the water from the water tank. The reason why there is not much cooling effect from this higher humidity air is because higher humidity air has lower efficiency in drying out the sweat on our skin.
So, my conclusion, this is an average/OK air cooler. It cools the air, but not much different with normal table fan. No complain on the functionality and etc. But if you are looking for cooler that can really reduce the room temperature, put on an air conditioner. To better illustrate it, if aircond is a 10, table fan is a 2, this air cooler will be around 2.5-3.

ReplyDeletei bought mac-cool3 for 1 week, not cool at all. came across this mac-cool1 page, saw the hose submerged into water. then only i realized mine was outside the box. took a while to fix it (there's a flap), now I can feel the cool breeze. not as cool as aircond, but within my expectation though. thanks!

It gives cooler air than my air cond, less hassle, almost quiet. I just need to put tap water in it, and press cool button to get cool air almost like 18 to 20 deg C.

ReplyDeleteits really half price kind. they wrote on their flyers all up to 50% but when i go there its like almost 90% all also half price LOL. dont need to worry la, got 16 brands of aircond in total lehh, samsung philips, all inside there all famous brands. and not just 1 2 model for each brand, there's tons of it. i doubt there's any place selling cheaper than courts la, they assure it already
